SME Brexit support fund opens for applications
From the 15 March 2021, smaller businesses are now able to apply for grants of up to £2,000 to help them adapt to new customs and tax rules when trading with the EU.
The £20 million SME Brexit Support Fund enables traders to access practical support, including training for new customs, rules of origin and VAT processes.
To be eligible, businesses must import or export goods between Great Britain and the EU, or move goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
This follows the government setting out a new timetable for introducing import border control processes to enable UK businesses to focus on their recovery. Full import border control processes will now be introduced on 1 January 2022, six months later than originally planned.

Self-Employment Income Support Scheme
If you’re self-employed or a member of a partnership and have been impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19) you can now find out if you can use this scheme to claim a grant.
This fourth grant covers 1 February 2021 to 30 April 2021 and to be eligible you must be a self-employed individual or a member of a partnership. However, you cannot claim the grant if you trade through a limited company or a trust.
Please note the basis of eligibility will now take account of your 19/20 tax return. As such those who may have been ineligible previously may now be able to apply.
The grant is calculated at 80% of 3 months’ average trading profits and is paid out in a single instalment and capped at £7,500 in total. How much you receive will depend on your average trading profits.
